The Games Committee has just learned, with much sadness, of the death of Walter McAdam MBE of Tillicoultry. He was formerly a local Councillor of many years standing (in both the old Regional Council as well as its successors) and represented his town until he retired after decades of loyal service. He wea awarded by the Queen with an MBE and was also a Deputy Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire.
He was the very first Guest of Honour at the Games in 2000 - he was then also the Provost - and so began an illustrious list of individuals who have fulfilled that role in the subsequent two decades. A man of great charm and warmth who always had time for any one who approached him, to call him a gentleman does not somehow seem an adequate accolade. He returned to the 160th Games in 2016 with all of the other surviving Guests of Honour, accompanied by his wife Pat to whom we all extend our condolences at this very difficult time.
