29th Oct 2007
The President, Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer all had the pleasure to be invited to attend the Centenary Luncheon of the Scottish Section of the Showmen's Guild at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow on Friday 26th October.
In truly august company including the Provost of our own Wee County and the Speaker of the House of Commons, they were entertained maginficently by the Chairman, Philip Paris and the Committee members of the Section and good food and good company were shared throughout the afternoon. The link between the Guild and Alva is a long one and one of which both organisations are rightly proud. Alva is one of only a handful of fairs organised directly by the Guild and it was an honour and delight to be part of their centenary celebrations just as they had been part of our 150th celebrations in 2006.
A most informative presentation was given on the history of the Section and it is clear to see why the Section is such an important and integral part of the history and culture of Scotland. Let's hope their second century is every bit as successful.
Craig Dunbar, Secretary. 29.10.2007.
