Annual General Meeting

29th Oct 2017

Report from tonight's meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Alva Games Committee took place tonight in St John Vianney Church Hall, Alva. The full committee was joined by Trade Stands organiser Lorraine Douglas and long term sponsor of the Invitation Sprint, Jamie Sharp of Alloa.

The Chairman extended a very warm welcome to all who had come along and to everyone who had contributed to the undoubted success of the 2017 Games. The Secretary reported on the numbers of visitors from overseas and the numbers of tour groups who were pre booking. Our Guest of Honour, Bert Hutchison, had had a most enjoyable day and a number of very kind thank you letters had been received. The holding of Tain Highland Gathering on the same day had done no damage to the cyclists numbers at Alva.

The treasurer reported on the continuing increase in expenditure which this year exceeded £22,000 for the first time, although included in that were a few items of one off capital purchases. Income had been boosted by a one off donation although sponsorship (for which the committee were truly grateful) and bingo tea income had both held up. All programmes had been sold on the day.  The Games had been the most financially successful in the last decade.

All office bearers and committee members were re-elected and Jamie Sharp accepted our nomination to join the Committee. The next meeting would be held on 28th January 2018. The planning for the 2018 games has started.
