AGM Report - Guest of Honour Chosen

30th Oct 2022

The Annual General meeting of the Alva Games Committee took place earlier tonight at the Cochrane Hall. The Committee was delighted to be able to report on a hugely successful Games in 2022, even if they did record a rather later than normal finish and were pleased to answer the annual Games or No Games question with a resounding positive response.

The Office Bearers were all re-elected by unanimous approval and the full Committee reinstated. The Chair, Secretary and Treasurer were at one in thanking everyone who helped in any way to make this year's Games such an unqualified success, while recognising the areas which required to be addressed for 2023.
The 165th Games will once again see the return of the Annual Shop Window Competition and the Annual Quiz Night as well as the Football Fun 5s the last named of which made a spectacular return to the Games Field in July.

The Guest of Honour was unanimously agreed as Mgr Ken McCaffrey, who will be known to most folk in the Town and County. He is the Honorary Life Chairman of the Games and has been a member of the Games Committee for over 30 years. Former Parish Priest in Alva and Alloa, he is now in residence in Dundee but remains thoroughly committed to the Games in his honorary role. He joined us for our two informal ceremonies during the pandemic and was present on the field this July, leading the parade and bringing our Guests on to the field.

We look forward to welcoming him in what will hopefully be a more relaxed and relaxing role for him and one which we are sure all will agree is thoroughly well deserved.
