15th Mar 2015
The Games Committee is delighted to announce that the Guest of Honour for 2015 will be Alex Webster from Forfar who will be joined on the day, as always, by his good lady, Ethel.
Alex had been the judge of our heavyweight contests for over 20 years until he announced last summer that he would be calling time on his illustrious career as one of the circuit's best known and best respected officials. He was himself involved in the games through Tug o'War but it is in "new" role as Chief Judge of the heavy contest that he is perhaps best known today. He is a Past Chairman of the Forfar (now Strathmore) Games Committee and is a past President of the Scottish Games Association of which his wife Ethel has also been Secretary and Assistant Secretary as well as performing the same role for many a year at the Forfar meeting. Ethel's meticulous recording of the event results at every meeting she attended made the task of many a Games Secretary that much easier and the life of the commentator so much more straight forward. Both were a pleasure to work with over many a trying but mostly enjoyable day on the games fields of Scotland!
Both attended our 150th Anniversary Games Dinner as our Guests in July 2006 and it seemed appropriate to mark his years of unstinting and loyal support of our meeting by inviting Alex and Ethel to join us as our Guests of Honour for 2015, an offer which we are all delighted to say was accepted by return.
We hope that for once they will be able to come to Alva, relax and enjoy the day with us. The picture is of Alex and Ethel taken at the Perth Games in August 2014, just before the monsoon struck!
