Annual General Meeting 2013

28th Sep 2013

The AGM of the Games Committee took place tonight when we had one of our best attended meetings in years.

The Committee was unanimous in declaring the 2013 Games one of the most successful in recent times and all agreed that this was down mainly to the superb summer weather which brought the crowds out in their thousands. A healthy surplus was recorded but already plans are well under way to use that up by the acquisition of a new permanent changing tent for the highland dancers as well as the renewal of Games polo shirts, ties and other similar branded items. It was also decided to seek to renew some of the arena seating in advance of the 2014 Games.

2014 will be a historic Games not least because of the number of opportunities there will be for the theme for the Shop Window competition - Bannockburn 700; Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the centenary of the Great War to name but three. More details on this will be announced after the next meeting in January.

We welcomed on board a new committee member in William Richardson from Alva who came along as a volunteer in the weeks leading up to the games in July and stayed with us on the day and assisted with the take down process on the Sunday. We hope that he will enjoy his time with us.

Games Chairman, Councillor Derek Stewart said "These were one of the most succesful Games we have held. I wish to thank all of the Committee members and other volunteers who contributed in so many ways to make the Games such an enjoyable experience. I welcome William Richardson to our number and am sure that he will be a valuable addition to our number and also that he will enjoy immensely his time in helping to organise the Games which remain the largest sporting event in the County".

It was agreed to change the day and time of the committee meetings so that in future they will, unless, otherwise intimated, be held to coincide with the monthly prize bingo evenings on the 4th Wednesday of the relevant months. The next Committee meeting will therefore be on Wednesday 22nd January 2014 at 7.30pm.
