Provost Takes Over Chair of Alva Games Committee

Tuesday 6th November 2007

Provost Derek Stewart has taken over as Chair of the Alva Games Committee for the 2008 Games.

The Provost was voted in unanimously as Chair at the Committee's Annual General Meeting on Sunday (4 November). He will now take the reigns for the 152nd Alva Games which takes place on 12th July 2008 at Johnstone Park, Alva.

Provost Stewart said: "I'm thrilled to be taking over as Chair and very grateful to the Committee for voting me in. The Alva Games has a great tradition in Clackmannanshire and it's an event I have enjoyed attending for many years.

"I'm already looking forward to next year's Alva Games. We'll be doing our best to match the standard of Games that has been set over the last few years and I hope the event will be as well supported by local people as it has been in the past."

The Provost is taking over as Chair from Father Ken McCaffrey who spent the best part of 10 years in the role. In recognition of his services to the Games, Father Ken has been made an honourary life member of the Committee.

Committee Secretary Craig Dunbar said: "The committee members are delighted to have Provost Stewart on board. He will be a brilliant Chair. He showed genuine enthusiasm and put in an enormous amount of hard work during our 150th anniversary year and he clearly enjoys being involved."
